The AWS Application Migration Service Architecture template provides you with an in-house, secure method to perform cloud migrations. Rather than depending on the internet, you're going to use private network connections to transfer your data.
It helps you:
Make your data communication confidential
Improve the pace and reliability of migrations
Shield workloads from the replication cycle
Employ AWS services that enable secure communication
You will import your current systems directly into AWS and maintain everything in the process within a secure network.
For most migration configurations, data must pass through the public internet. That exposes you to threats such as cyberattacks or unstable connections. This is not something you can do if you're a large company or handling sensitive information. This template removes that risk.
By employing private connections like Direct Connect or VPN, you establish a secure link between your data center and AWS. You also employ services like Amazon Route 53, interface endpoints, and a staging subnet to control and secure the migration at each step. Therefore, if you want to relocate without exposing your information to the internet, this is the option to take.
This setup is best for:
Organizations that manage sensitive customer or business information
Companies undertaking massive cloud migrations
Collections that must meet or comply with security requirements
Anyone seeking a more secure and private migration strategy
You are to apply this template when:
You're working on a large migration project
Your corporate policies prohibit internet use in public for data transfer
You require uninterrupted, consistent connections
You're working in fields such as finance, healthcare, or government
Here is a simple division of all the major components involved in this setup:
Corporate Data Center – Your starting point; where your current systems and data reside.
Source Server – The servers that you wish to migrate to AWS
AWS Replication Agent – Installed on every server to help in transferring data to AWS.
DWS Resolver – Helps resolve DNS name during migration
AWS Direct Connect – A fast, dedicated connection from your data center to AWS
AWS VPN – Another secure internet connection alternative if Direct Connect is not being used
Application Migration Service (MGN) – The component that controls and streamlines the migration
Amazon EC2 – Where your migrated workloads will execute in AWS
Amazon S3 – Temporarily stores data as it is being replicated
Interface Endpoints – Enable secure communication with AWS services
Route 53 Inbound Endpoints – Get your on-prem systems capable of resolving AWS private DNS
Staging Area Subnet – Temporary AWS environment for migration
Replication Servers – Carry out the actual copying of data from source to destination
Migrated Resources – The remaining migrated servers in your AWS account
Security Groups – Manage network traffic into and out of AWS resources
These factors work together to make your migration private, seamless, and safe end to end.
